Scalp Micropigmentation FAQ’S

Cant find the right answer to your SMP question?

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive treatment that uses detailed micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles or short hair stubble. If you are starting to thin, recede, or if you are completely bald, we can give you the look of a short buzz cut.

Will it look real and natural?

Scalp micropigmentation has become such an effective hair loss solution because of its consistently natural and undetectable results. At Bronation, we pride ourselves on the ability to seamlessly replicate each individual hair follicle to create a perfect match for each client.

How many treatments should I expect?

Scalp micropigmentation should never be considered a one treatment process. Most clients can expect between 3-5 sessions to complete their treatment depending on the extent of hair loss or scarring. These treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days apart. Based on a fixed price prior to treatment, we will carry out treatment any further treatment absolutely free of charge for 6 months from your third session.

How long does scalp micropigmentation take?

The Scalp Micropigmentation treatment typically takes 2-4 hours per session depending on your degree of hair loss. Most clients can expect between 3-5 sessions to complete their treatment depending on the extent of hair loss or scarring. These treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days apart.

How long do the results last?

After completion of your treatment a client should expect the strength of the color to last for many years. Over a longer term, a client will very gradually begin to notice slight lightening (not discolor) of the treatment. When this occurs they can undergo a brief “touch up” session to restore any fading and secure many more years of their style.

We offer an unbelievable discount for a touch up session to returning bronation customers.

Do I need to take time off work?

Scalp micropigmentation is non-invasive and requires almost no down time. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for a day or two post session. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away. Clients are also allowed to wear hats or headwear should they feel the need.

We do however recommend that you try not to sweat for 4 days after treatment, don’t wash your head for 4 days, and follow a few other minor aftercare basics.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation permanent?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics or permanent makeup. Often referred to as a cosmetic hair or scalp tattoo, this treatment typically lasts 4-6 years, but may still be visible as long as 10 years later. During that time, a client may experience some slight fading (not discoloration), to which they can come back in for a quick touch up session to give that fresh rejuvenated look . This cosmetic solution will not wash off.

How do I choose a hairline?

We are highly skilled in drawing on a hairline to suit the individual. No head and facial features are completely symmetrical, therefore it is important to take this into account to create the most natural look possible. We will work with you to create a hairline you are happy with.

At Bronation we always adopt a gradual approach to the whole proceedure. We start off with a lighter shade for the first session and fade it out very gradually to just above where you want the finished hairline. Over the following days the pigment will fade considerably. The next sessions we increase the pigment shade and density and tweak it ever so slightly until you are 100% happy with it. We also offer 12 months free treatments from your third session should you decide you want any further treatment.

Will it change color like tattoos?

Absolutely not. Here at Bronation we use a pigment (not ink) specifically designed for micropigmentation. It is completely natural with no added chemicals like that of tattoo ink. It is these chemicals within tattoo ink (specifically iron oxides) which react to the suns UV light and change colour.
Scalp micropigmentation also utilizes different equipment than traditional tattooing, ensuring the needle and machine are designed specifically for micropigmentation of the scalp, combined with a skilled SMP practitioner the pigment is deposited shallower than conventional tattoos, hence why they fade , but don’t discolor.

Will Scalp Micropigmentation work with gray hair?

Yes, those with gray hair can still benefit from the scalp micropigmentation procedure. First, most clients are recommended to cut their hair to a short buzzed length. When this is done, gray hair does not appear as gray because the hair root itself is darker. Hair only shows gray as it gets longer. Second, we use a gray-scale pigment that can be adjusted in shade to blend with lighter hair tones. We simply create a lighter dilution for blending into the existing gray hairs.

What if I turn grey after getting it done?

Turning grey won’t happen over night. It is a gradual process which happens roughly the same speed at which the pigment fades and will look completely natural.

Also, the vast majority of people with longer hair turn grey on the sides first, so you will have a more youthful look than them if they keep it longer on the sides. (a win for the bald lads)

Can Scalp Micropigmentation camouflage my transplant scar?

Yes! By replicating tiny hair follicles inside the scarring and blending the color around the scarring area, transplant and surgical scars virtually disappear..

Does it matter whether my skin tone is dark or light?

Not at all. We are able to match the shade of our pigment to a wide range of skin tones. No matter what your skin tone, we can match the pigment shade to complement your natural shaved hair colour.

Does the scalp micropigmentation procedure hurt?

There is very little to no pain with micropigmentation. Most clients find it a relaxing procedure akin to having a massage. I have had clients nod off during a treatment. Those with a very low pain threshold may find is very slightly irritating at most.

It is not the same as having a regular tattoo.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation for long hair?

Scalp Micropigmentation is used to add density to thinning areas. We are able to add thickness to areas common areas like the crown, hair parting and more. For people that are using scalp micropigmentation to rebuild their hairline, we recommend keeping your hair short for a more balanced look.

Can I wear a hat after my scalp micropigmentation treatment?

Yes, you can wear a hat after your scalp micropigmentation treatment is complete.

Trust me though, you wont want to. After my treatment I looked at my vast hat collection and though “well they were a waste of money.”
